Partners Ryan Casteix and Donald McKay, Jr., traded the usual flatlands of Louisiana for the sharp peaks of the Canadian Rocky Mountains while at the 2023 ALFA International Construction Seminar in Whistler, Canada, last week.

The seminar covered some of the critical issues that are facing the construction industry today, from the Reptile Theory to Clean Energy and Resilient Design. L&A’s own Ryan Casteix moderated a panel with Ed Everitt of Neel-Schaffer, Liz Molina of Berkley Alliance Manager, and Jon Lieb of McDowell Knight that broke down the barriers between the classic match-up of construction: designers versus contractors.

Following the construction law sessions, seminar attendees visited the Squamish Lil’wat Cultural Centre to learn about the Squamish and Lil’wat Nations that have coexisted in the lands surrounding Whistler since time immemorial.
