Louisiana Supreme Court unanimously reverses lower courts’ judgment against L&A’s client Chartis Specialty (AIG)
On December 9, 2022, the Louisiana Supreme Court rendered a decision in Williams v. BestComp, in which that Court unanimously reversed the lower courts’ judgments in a class action in favor of the class plaintiffs for $5.0 million, plus interest, against Leake & Andersson LLP’s client Chartis Specialty Insurance Company, an AIG company. The Supreme Court held that Chartis’ insured was not a “group purchaser” under Louisiana’s Preferred Provider Act, La.R.S. 40:2201, et seq. The Firm’s principal partner George Fagan represents Chartis in the litigation.
