Laurie Dearman serves as Special Counsel at Leake Andersson. Her practice areas include appellate, commercial, employment, insurance coverage, management liability and professional liability.
Laurie is licensed to practice in Louisiana, North Carolina, and Texas. She earned her Bachelor of Arts from Louisiana State University before attending Tulane Law School. After graduating Order of the Coif from Tulane Law School, Laurie began her career as law clerk to the Honorable Morey L. Sear during his tenure as Chief Judge for the United States District Court for the Eastern District of Louisiana. Later, while residing in North Carolina for eight years, Laurie served as a law clerk to Magistrate Judge P. Trevor Sharp in the United States District Court for the Middle District of North Carolina and practiced in the area of commercial litigation.
In her many years of practice, both as a law clerk and in private practice, Laurie has developed a focus on complex commercial matters filed in state and federal courts and arbitration. Laurie has represented clients in years-long multidistrict litigation and class action litigation in the areas of antitrust, environmental, maritime and products liability. Laurie also has experience in transactional and regulatory counseling for companies and utilities.
Personal
Originally from Natchitoches, Louisiana, Laurie is an ardent transplant to New Orleans but both of her young adult children are native New Orleanians who also reside and work in the city. In her free time, Laurie enjoys spending time with her son and daughter in New Orleans and visiting and caring for her ancestral home in Natchitoches. Laurie serves on various committees associated with the hospitality industry and historic preservation and takes special pride in supporting small and women-owned businesses in New Orleans. She enjoys walking and dining in the Esplanade Ridge Historic District, cooking, photography, and she attends live music events as often as possible. Laurie has a beloved black cat who is her companion and protector.
