Recruiting

It is often said that "there are too many lawyers." While that may be the case, it is also true that there is always a place for talented lawyers. Leake & Andersson, L.L.P. seeks to hire lawyers who have just graduated from law school as well as experienced attorneys. We look for motivated individuals who enjoy challenges, and who have excellent academic backgrounds, impressive work experience, and the ability to persuasively express themselves in briefs and in the courtroom.

Leake & Andersson, L.L.P. typically hires four to six summer law clerks who have just finished their first or second years of law school. Summer law clerks may work for all or part of the summer. We also have a need for law clerks who work for the Firm on a part-time basis during the school year.

2. What type of work does Leake & Andersson do?

Leake & Andersson, L.L.P. is primarily a litigation-practice law firm. The Firm represents domestic and international corporations as well as insurance companies in a wide variety of tort and casualty based litigation. The Firm also represents clients involved in bankruptcy, business, commercial, construction, employment, environmental, professional liability, real estate and workers' compensation litigation.

3. What is the geographic scope of the Firm's representation?

4. Does your Firm have sections?

Although we do not have formal practice sections, the Firm's partners have individualized practices and interests that cover a wide diversity of practice areas. Associates gain experience in these various practice areas by working with particular partners.

5. Are associates assigned to work for a particular partner?

Each associate is assigned a partner to be his or her mentor. The associates' mentor is responsible for the associates' overall development at the Firm. Associates may receive work assignments from the associate's mentor and from other partners as well. Over time, associates typically tend to perform more work for one or two partners than for other partners in the Firm.

6. When do associates get to handle cases on their own?

Associates handle cases on their own as soon as the partner who supervises that associate feels that the associate is ready to do so. Typically, new hires who have just passed the bar work on assignments under close supervision from the responsible partner. New associates typically begin their litigation practice by preparing pleadings, interviewing witnesses, taking depositions, attending hearings and contacting clients. Most associates have a substantial caseload by the second or third year and normally will have had the opportunity to participate in trials in their own cases or working with a partner. Associates typically continue to work on larger or more complex cases with partners.

7. What sort of training opportunities does the Firm provide?

The Firm conducts periodic meetings with associates during which presentations are made by partners. These concern substantive or procedural issues and skills that are essential to a litigation practice. We sponsor associates to attend trial training seminars conducted by the International Association of Defense Counsel and the National Institute for Trial Advocacy. We also sponsor and encourage associates to participate in professional and bar activities that promote their practice areas or areas of interest.
